“Luke is an historian of the highest caliber.”
Claimed one secular source upon an investigation into the Gospel that Luke had written. Luke never met Christ, but, commissioned by Paul he set about to create the most accurate account of the life of Jesus that he could, beginning with the last of the OT prophets, John the Baptist.

At Central Teaching, we will be diving into this historically accurate account of Christ, discovering his teachings and what they mean to us today.

Luke 7 – The Authority of Jesus

Luke 7

To religious people, the true message of Jesus is either offensive, or boring.

To the legalist, the message of grace is an offensive, bitter taste.

To the one who has known God for a long time, Jesus’ message becomes old hat, boring, and taken for granted.

But the man who hears the Word of God, and acts upon it is indeed like a man who builds a house upon a strong, unfailing foundation. The house will not be shaken or swept away.

Jesus has authority over everyone and everything, for he is the King of Salvation.

Luke 6 – Judging Others

Sermon on the Plain. Jesus is into some trouble, the hunt has begun! The religious leaders of the day have had it up to here with Jesus, for everything he was teaching was contrary to their message. Their riches and power, their good works and sacrifices, all meant nothing under the system that Jesus had brought about.

He’s starting to go public with his message, many people are starting to follow him.

Luke 6 – The New Way

Luke 6

People who say “all religions are the same” can’t say that if they know much about what Christianity is really about. We’re all about dumping the name “Christian,” because it’s not in the bible, and so much dirt of history comes with that old, crusty religion.
Jesus defies the religious system, and offers god’s grace to mankind.

Luke 5 – An Outlaw Festival

Luke 5

The new wine has arrived! The third Thursday of every November, the Beaujolais Nouveau arrives, and what a beautiful wine it is.  Likewise, the gospel that Jesus brings is a new wine. The Pharisees complained that Jesus’ disciples did not fast, but instead ate, drank and were merry while Jesus was with them. They complained that Jesus’ disciples were having too much fun! They weren’t following the religious rules, and they were taking the delights of following God, and turning them into duties and drudgeries.

Luke 5 – Jesus Christ! Who Even Cares?

As it is written, “God so loved the world…” yet Christians today portray a different message, closer to “God so hates the world.” Keeping themselves “clean” and letting the dirty people go and rot. Christ came for those dirty people, “not to save the healthy, but for those who are sick.”

Luke 5 – An Outlaw Movement

Luke 5

Keith McCallum talks about how Jesus questioned the most cherished beliefs in his hometown, and was hated by the people he’d known for all his life.
But everywhere else, they were amazed at his message because it was given with authority.
Jesus launched a worldwide movement, went out to the people. He came to give the world spiritual direction, which is hard to see, but you’ll eventually die without it. Pursuing God’s calling is the only way to real life.
God wants to build movements. He wants to disturb the human instinct to build up our own little boxes, and get us into building a movement. A movement based on love, and teaching how to love, and learning to teach others how to love.
Guest testimony given by Kent State University Junior Lydia Kocab.

Job: “God-Encounters”

God is involved in our suffering

Keith McCallum teaches a Halloween teaching on the book of Job, the oldest book in the Bible. This book could be called “A man in agony,” or more aptly, “God is involved in our agony.” Job deals with the problem of pain, and gives us a framework to expect suffering, and how to deal with it. (And many ways that are terrible for dealing with suffering.)

Luke 4 – Outlawed World

Keith McCallum continues in Luke 4, telling about the origins of Jesus’ Ministry, from “a voice calling in the wilderness.” God’s system is totally opposed to the systems of this world at every step of the way. Jesus’ Kingdom is all about the truth, and compassion and love, while the system of the world is consumed with lies, oppression and slavery, and various false gods and demigods.

Luke 4 – Clash of Titans

Keith McCallum speaks about the infamous “temptation of Christ.” When Jesus was lead out into the wilderness for 40 days, and the God of the universe crossed with the “god” of this world.
